John offered Open Mic at the OrCoast Music Annex (located right next door to the music store) beginning in 2009. Providing a fully equipped stage with a drum kit, keyboard, PA system, guitar & bass amps, lighting and seating for approximately 35 people…it is a welcome venue for musicians of all ages, styles and genres. Since then, hundreds of players and singers have enjoyed making music for appreciative audiences who do not mind talent of all levels to show what they’ve got. After a break during the pandemic, Open Mic reopened in January 2023 and it was as though it never stopped.
Scheduled every 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month (holiday weekends excepted), performances start at 4:30 pm. A full slate of performers will keep the music live until around 7:30 pm. Coffee, beverages and snacks are offered at minimal cost. The Annex does have some capacity limits, so it’s possible that listeners may need to rotate in or out with their favorite performers or friends. We (and the Fire Marshall) appreciate your cooperation to rotate in and out when we reach capacity.
If you would like to sign up to perform, please arrive at the OrCoast Annex (the “Wind Tunnel” — right next to the OrCoast Music store) between 3:45 and 4:00 pm for your best chance to capture one of the twelve available slots. Performances should consist of three songs or less, with your total time on stage limited to 15 minutes. Please be ready to plug and play promptly after the prior act. You will be kept informed of your order from the list of performers, but you should keep track by knowing in advance who is playing directly before your slot.
Open Mic is provided compliments of John & Genevieve, the owners of OrCoast Music. There is no cost to come listen or to perform, however, donations to cover the cost of electricity, etc. are appreciated. Volunteers to help prepare the venue and/or clean & close after the performance are also welcome.
Come join the OrCoast Open Mic experience, and THANK YOU South Coast music lovers for keeping the tradition alive!
